AbstractThis article discusses the utilization of a tool called FA (Asymmetric Fragmentation), a computational operator, for "restinga", primary and secondary forest discrimination. These three forest formations are spectrally similar, making it difficult to execute an image classification leading to satisfactory results. The FA operator was developed to characterize complex regimes, based on the dominance of some structures, and it was originally used for plasma researches. We propose to test the FA operator for spectral pattern discrimination in natural resource research.
